§ 02 · What it is and what it is for

One exam. Your date, your home, your level.

No fixed sittings: the exam is taken when you need it, from home.

LanguageCert International ESOL is the PeopleCert group's suite of level exams, regulated by Ofqual, certifying from A1 to C2 with two independent modules: the Written (Listening, Reading and Writing in one session) and the Spoken (a live interview with an examiner). Its hallmark is the logistics: the whole exam can be taken online from home, with a live human proctor, choosing day and time almost on demand, weekends too.

In Spain its recognition has grown fast: it is on the CRUE lists (A1 to C2) and ACLES, it is valid for the Community of Madrid's language accreditation, for teaching public exams in Primary and Secondary and for processes such as those at Correos, as well as the universities that include it in their tables. For a candidate with a deadline looming, the combination of an on-demand exam and results in about 3 working days is hard to match.

Pillar · 01

You set the date

No fixed sittings: an online exam with live proctoring whenever you need it, weekends too. From "I need the B2" to the certificate can take days, not months.

Pillar · 02

Two independent modules

Written and Spoken are booked and passed separately. If one goes badly, you retake only that one, and with the Take2 option the retry is secured in advance.

Pillar · 03

Booking and preparation in one place

We handle your registration at the official price and train you for the exact level you are sitting. A single point of contact from start to finish.

§ 03 · Exam format

Two modules, six levels, a date to suit you.

Each level (A1 Preliminary, A2 Access, B1 Achiever, B2 Communicator, C1 Expert, C2 Mastery) has its own exam, always with the same architecture of two independent modules: Written and Spoken.

Mind the minimums by skill

LanguageCert passes the Written from 75 out of 150 overall, with no minimum required per skill. The nuance is who asks you for the certificate: many processes and universities do set a minimum per skill, often around 50%, so one sunken skill can leave you out even when the average passes. Before you book, check the exact requirement of your process, especially at C1.

Module Content Approx. duration Scoring
Written Exam Listening, Reading and Writing in a single session. Around 2h30 by level 150 points (50 per skill), pass from 75.
Spoken Exam Live interview with an examiner, in the online format too. ~15 min by level 50 points, pass from 25.

Swipe horizontally to see the full table.

How the online-from-home format works

Element Detail
InvigilationA live human invigilator by webcam throughout the exam.
RequirementsA computer with camera and microphone, a stable connection, a private room and photo ID.
BookingYour choice of day and time, with near-continuous availability, weekends included.
Spoken onlineThe interview is with a real examiner by video call, not a recording.

Swipe horizontally to see the full table.

Structural note

The two modules produce independent results, and most Spanish institutions require both to certify the full level. Check what your process asks for exactly before booking only one.

Practical note

The exam from home has its own technique: the room, ID and IT requirements disqualify candidates who arrived well prepared in English and poorly prepared in logistics. A full mock under real conditions (same room, same kit, same time of day) avoids the costly surprise.

§ 04 · Scoring system

Written out of 150, Spoken out of 50. Pass from halfway.

System

A result per module.

Scored out of 150 in the Written (50 per skill) and out of 50 in the Spoken, with a pass from 50%. Each module produces its own result and its own module certificate; most institutions require both for the full level.

High Pass

The pass with margin.

High marks are recognised as a High Pass: the signal that you can consider the next level. It comes with 101 out of 150 in the Written and 38 out of 50 in the Spoken, against the 75 and 25 of a normal pass.

What each result means

Result What it means
PassLevel certified in that module.
High PassA comfortable pass: the signal that you can consider the next level.
Not passedYou retake only the failed module, whenever you like; with Take2, the retry is already paid for.

What each skill assesses

Skill What it assesses Common trap for Spanish speakers
ListeningComprehension appropriate to the level.Getting complacent at home: the audio runs just the same, even if it is your own sofa.
ReadingComprehension and accuracy.Mismanaging the clock in a session that groups three skills.
WritingWriting tasks for the level.Falling short on word count or ignoring the format asked for.
SpeakingLive interview with an examiner.Treating the video call as something casual: it is a full oral exam.

Swipe horizontally to see the full table.

Special rule · Take2

For a supplement at booking, you are guaranteed a second attempt at the exam if the first does not go to plan. For the public-exam candidate racing a deadline, it turns the risk of a bad day into a small fixed cost.

Minimums by skill · C1

Since March 2025, the C1 requires a minimum score in each Written skill: the average is not enough. A sunken skill is no longer offset by the other two. Check the exact requirement of your process.

§ 05 · Certificate validity

Each institution decides how recent it must be.

No imposed expiry.

LanguageCert certificates carry no expiry date set by LanguageCert, and the digital certificate is as valid as the physical one and is verified online. As always, the institution that asks for it decides the age it accepts: in public exams and accreditations, limits of 2 to 4 years are common, and each year's call can change the rule.

Important · recent recognition

LanguageCert's recognition in Spain is among the fastest growing, but also among the most recent. For unusual processes, confirm that your specific institution lists it in its current table before you book. Two minutes of checking save a whole fee.

§ 06 · Six levels

One exam for each level, from A1 to C2.

CEFR level Exam Typical use in Spain
A1A1 PreliminaryInitial accreditation and basic language requirements.
A2A2 AccessAccess requirements and early academic progression.
B1B1 AchieverMinimum graduation requirement on many degrees.
B2B2 CommunicatorTeaching public exams, graduation and job pools.
C1C1 ExpertLanguage accreditation, bilingual secondary, postgraduate study.
C2C2 MasteryFull command: demanding scoring scales and an advanced teaching profile.

Swipe horizontally to see the full table.

In practice

It is a fixed-level exam: sit the level you already have, not the one you want. Sitting above your level means losing the fee. If you are torn between two levels, our level test tells you in minutes, free.

§ 07 · Formats

From home with a live proctor, or at a centre.

The online format with live invigilation is LanguageCert's hallmark: your choice of date and time, weekends included. There are also test centres in Spain for those who prefer to sit at a venue.

Main uses · Spain

The strong ground: public exams and accreditation.

Teaching public exams in Primary and Secondary, the Community of Madrid's language accreditation, university accreditation via the CRUE (A1-C2) and ACLES lists, public selection processes (Correos among them) and private ones.

Practical note

LanguageCert is the exam that answers the phrase "I need the certificate before the end of the month": exam this week, result in 3 days, digital certificate on the spot.

If your deadline is longer and you want decades of prestige, also look at the fixed-level Cambridge exams, which you can also prepare with us, with enrolment handled for you.

§ 10 · Take2 and retakes

The second attempt, secured in advance.

Mechanism Take2 A surcharge at booking that guarantees you a second attempt at the exam if the first does not go well.
What you retake Just 1 The modules are independent: if you fail one, you retake only that one, without touching the one you passed.
When Whenever you like No fixed sittings: you book the retake for a chosen date and time, weekends too.
For the candidate with a deadline

Take2 turns the risk of a bad day into a small fixed cost: if the first attempt does not go well, the second is already paid for. It is the natural insurance for anyone with a process depending on the result.

A bad day does not erase the other module

Written and Spoken produce independent results: a weak result in one does not invalidate the other. You retake only what failed and keep the rest.

§ 11 · Strategic comparison

LanguageCert versus Cambridge, Aptis and Linguaskill. Which your body recognises.

LanguageCert Cambridge (B2 First / C1 Advanced) Aptis General New Linguaskill

An honest read

Choose it when the deadline rules, not for decades of prestige.

DO choose LanguageCert when the deadline rules and you need to sit this week without depending on fixed sittings or travel, when your public exam or accreditation includes it (Madrid and the teaching exams are its strong ground), when you want to secure the result with a second attempt booked in advance (Take2), or when the two separate modules let you retake only what failed.

DO NOT choose it when your process names another exam (sit the one they ask for), when your institution does not yet include it in its table (recognition is growing but not universal: check), when you want the maximum-prestige, long-established credential (fixed-level Cambridge), or when your destination is a foreign university or a non-British visa (IELTS or TOEFL; for UKVI visas there is LanguageCert's SELT version, ask us).

Not sure which exam?

We help you choose the right certificate.

Tell us your goal and we will tell you straight whether LanguageCert, a fixed-level Cambridge, Aptis or Linguaskill suits you.

§ 12 Who is it for?

Check whether LanguageCert fits your goal.

It is for you if

LanguageCert fits.

  • +You are sitting a Primary or Secondary teaching exam and need the B2 or C1 certified before the deadline, without waiting for a sitting.
  • +You need the Community of Madrid's language accreditation with a deadline looming.
  • +You want to sit from home, at the weekend if needed, with a real examiner on the other side.
  • +You prefer to play it safe: Take2 guarantees you a second attempt already paid for.
  • +You failed one module in another attempt and only need to retake that part.
Consider another option if

Better another exam.

  • ·Your process names another exam: sit exactly the one they ask for.
  • ·Your institution does not include LanguageCert in its current table: check before you pay.
  • ·You want the maximum-prestige certificate for the long term: Cambridge B2 First, C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency, which you can also prepare at ULIC, with enrolment handled for you.
  • ·Your destination is a foreign university or a non-British visa: IELTS or TOEFL.
§ 13 · Frequently asked questions

The most common questions about LanguageCert.

The PeopleCert group's suite of English exams, regulated by Ofqual, certifying levels from A1 to C2 with two independent modules (Written and Spoken). Its distinctive feature: the whole exam can be taken online from home, with live proctoring, on the date and time you choose.
It is on the CRUE (A1 to C2) and ACLES lists, valid for the Community of Madrid's language accreditation, for Primary and Secondary teaching public exams and for processes such as those at Correos, plus the universities that include it. The usual rule: confirm your specific process before booking.
You book a day and time, and a human proctor accompanies you live by webcam throughout the exam. You need a computer with camera and microphone, a stable connection, a private room and your ID document. The Spoken is a real interview with an examiner by video call.
Yes, they are independent modules: booked, taken and passed separately. Most Spanish institutions require both to certify the full level.
You retake only that module, whenever you like. And if you added Take2 at booking, the second attempt is already paid for.
An option added at booking that guarantees you a second attempt at the exam if the first does not go well. For anyone with a public-exam deadline depending on it, it turns the risk of a bad day into a small fixed cost.
In about 3 working days. The digital certificate is issued when the result is released, verified online and with the same validity as the physical diploma.
It depends on the level and the modules. Booking with ULIC you pay the official exam price with admin included.
The Written out of 150 points (50 per skill) and the Spoken out of 50, with a pass from half. Note: since March 2025 the C1 also requires a minimum in each Written skill, the average is not enough. Comfortable passes are recognised as High Pass.
The one you already have: it is a fixed-level exam and sitting above your level means losing the fee. Our level test tells you in minutes, free.
LanguageCert sets no expiry, but each process decides what age it accepts, usually between 2 and 4 years. Confirm it in the current call for your procedure.
There are SELT versions of LanguageCert approved for UKVI visas, which are different exams from the International ESOL. If your goal is a British visa, tell us and we will point you to the right product.
Its multi-level exam aimed at international university admissions. For typical Spanish use (public exams, accreditation, CRUE), the product is International ESOL, which is the one on this page.
No: the exam is online from home with LanguageCert's proctoring, or at its in-person venues. What you do with ULIC is everything else: booking and payment at the official price, level test, preparation and real-conditions mock exams.
The logistics, not the English: non-private rooms, cameras that do not meet requirements, unstable connections, invalid documents. Our mock exam reproduces the real conditions so that on exam day nothing is new.
Yes, with One to One: individual preparation for the exact level you are sitting, training for the Spoken interview by video call and a full mock exam under exam conditions from home.
§ 14 · Prep at ULIC

One format for an exam taken at home.

LanguageCert is failed two ways: sitting the wrong level and neglecting the logistics of the exam at home. Both are solved before booking: level test first, real-conditions mock exam after. That is why for LanguageCert we offer a single preparation format.

Your deadline will not wait. Your exam can be this week.

Confirm the level you are asked for, measure the one you have and book a date. At ULIC we handle your registration at the official price and prepare you so the exam is a formality, not a gamble. Since 2010, with mock exams under the same conditions as the real exam.
