§ 02 · What it is and what it is for

Anglia is not one exam: it is a ladder of ten levels.

A ladder. Each rung, a certificate.

Anglia Examinations England is the examining body of the Chichester College Group, in the UK, and its suite of exams assesses the four skills with a unique approach: instead of a jump between big exams, a ladder of levels running up to Mastery (C2), accredited by Ofqual and carrying UCAS points for entry to British universities. Its four top levels are official qualifications of the British framework through AIM Qualifications.

In Spain it has operated since 2007 and is on the official recognition lists of CRUE and ACLES, as well as being recognised by the Government and regional authorities: it certifies level for universities, selection processes and public calls that include it. Its practical advantage is logistics: sittings every month, on paper or computer (even from home), and a fast track option for urgent deadlines.

Pillar · 01

Step by step, no leaps into the void

Linked levels, each one its own exam: there is always a rung at your exact level, so you certify what you actually have and move up from there.

Pillar · 02

The most flexible logistics on the market

Monthly sittings, paper or computer, at a centre or from home, and urgent results with the fast track option. The exam adapts to your deadline, not the other way round.

Pillar · 03

Sit the exam where you prepare

ULIC is an official Anglia exam centre (ES-B180538): you book, pay, prepare and sit in one place, with no intermediaries.

§ 03 · Exam format

Each level is its own exam.

Each level assesses the four skills (at the early levels, with a simplified structure and optional Speaking in some). Sessions can be on paper at a centre or on computer, even from home; in the small sessions, Speaking is an online interview with an official Anglia assessor.

The full ladder

Anglia level CEFR Who for
PrimaryA1Around 400 words, questions and answers, descriptions.
PreliminaryA1+First level with separate skills; around 800 words, past simple.
ElementaryA2Full verb tenses, modals, purpose.
Pre-IntermediateA2+Passive, second conditional, gerunds, phrasal verbs.
IntermediateB1The first rung with typical adult accreditation value.
AdvancedB2The level for university graduation and selection processes.
ProficiencyC1AIM Level 2 qualification of the British framework.
MasteryC2Accredited by Ofqual, with 16 UCAS points for British universities.

What each exam assesses

General structure of the accreditation-value levels, from B1 to C2.

Skill Format Note
ReadingComprehension of level-appropriate texts. On paper or computer.
WritingWriting tasks by level.Marked by Anglia examiners.
ListeningRecordings with comprehension tasks. On paper or computer.
SpeakingInterview with an assessor, online in the small sessions.Optional at some levels: for full official accreditation, always do it.

Structural note

At some levels Speaking is formally optional. For a certificate with accreditation value before universities and public bodies you need the four skills: at ULIC we treat it as compulsory, full stop. The optionality exists for internal use, not for your record.

Practical note

Anglia's strength is sitting the right rung. A candidate who sits a level too low wastes time; one who jumps two rungs loses the fee. The prior level test here is not a sales pitch, it is the mechanism of the system.

§ 04 · Scoring

Each exam certifies its level.

How it is certified

The certificate states level and grade.

Each exam certifies its level. The certificate states the level passed and the grade obtained. Unlike a single-jump exam, the ladder documents your progress rung by rung.

The grades

Refer, Pass, Merit and Distinction.

Anglia grades in four bands. Refer means the level was not passed and issues no certificate. From Pass upwards you earn the certificate for that level, and Merit and Distinction record strong or outstanding performance. As a rough guide, Pass starts around 50%, Merit around 65% and Distinction from 80%.

What your result says

Result What it means
Level passedOfficial certificate of the rung you sat.
Higher distinctionHigh grades signal that you are ready for the next rung.
Level not passedRetaken at the following month's sitting: the shortest retry cycle on the market.

What each skill assesses and its common trap

Skill What it assesses Common trap for Spanish speakers
ReadingComprehension appropriate to the rung.Sitting a level above your real one "to save a year".
WritingWriting with the structures of the level.Using memorised structures from a lower level: the exam is designed to detect them.
ListeningComprehension of level recordings.Getting complacent at the middle levels, where the difficulty jump is bigger.
SpeakingInterview with an assessor.Online-interview nerves: trained in a mock, not on exam day.

Swipe horizontally to see the full table.

Special rule

The ladder turns a fail into a small setback: with monthly sittings, retaking a level costs a month, not a year. And progress is documented certificate by certificate, something no single-jump exam offers.

The right rung

Almost all the traps above are solved the same way: by measuring your real level before booking. The prior level test is not an extra, it is the mechanism that makes Anglia work well.

§ 05 · Certificate validity

Anglia sets no expiry.

The institution decides.

Anglia certificates have no expiry date set by Anglia Examinations. As always, who decides whether to accept it and how recent it must be is the institution that asks for it: universities and public calls usually set 2-to-4-year limits for language certificates, and that rule overrides any other.

Important

If the certificate is for a specific procedure (graduation, public exam, selection process), confirm before sitting that the institution accepts Anglia for that procedure and with what maximum age.

CRUE and ACLES recognition is the door; each institution's rules are the key.

§ 06 · Anglia in Spain

Price by level, sittings and fast track.

Price By level On paper, from 61 € at A1 to 170 € at C2, rising with the level; the online formats carry a supplement. When you book with ULIC you pay the official centre fee, with no intermediaries.
Sittings Monthly Every month, on paper or computer. With ULIC as an official centre, the date is scheduled around your calendar, even from home.
Results 7296 h A fast track option for urgent deadlines; the standard turnaround is somewhat longer.
Main uses in Spain

From university to public sector processes.

Level accreditation at universities (CRUE and ACLES lists), selection processes, and public calls that include Anglia in their tables.

Anglia has operated in Spain since 2007 with a head office in Almería and venues across the mainland and islands.

Practical note

The ladder also changes the logic of spending on certifications: instead of gambling everything on one expensive exam, you certify the level you already hold and each certificate builds on the last.

For adults with a deadline, the combination of a monthly sitting plus fast track is the fastest route to an official paper certificate on the market.

When to choose Anglia

Year-on-year progress, flexible logistics and paper.

When you want to certify the level you already hold without waiting for a single big exam, when your institution accepts Anglia (CRUE and ACLES lists) and you need the most flexible logistics on the market, when the deadline demands a sitting this month and a result in days, or when the candidate performs better on paper than in front of a screen, something almost no other exam still offers every month.

When not to choose Anglia

Sit the one they ask for.

When your process names another exam, when you want the maximum-recognition credential for the long term (fixed-level Cambridge), when your destination is a foreign university or a visa (IELTS or TOEFL), or when your specific institution does not have Anglia in its table: check before you pay.

§ 09 · Who is it for?

Check whether Anglia fits your goal.

It is for you if

Anglia fits.

  • +You need to certify B1, B2 or C1 for a university that accepts Anglia and your deadline needs a sitting this month.
  • +You prefer to sit on paper, or from home by computer, and want the date to adapt to you.
  • +You need the result quickly: the fast track option gives you the result sooner.
Consider another option if

Better another exam.

  • ·Your process or public exam names another exam: sit exactly the one they ask for.
  • ·You want the maximum-prestige long-established credential: Cambridge B2 First, C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency.
  • ·Your destination is a foreign university or a visa: IELTS or TOEFL.
  • ·Your institution does not have Anglia in its table of accepted certificates: check before booking.

Anglia is on the CRUE and ACLES lists, which are the reference for Spanish universities. Each university publishes its own table: check that yours includes it for your specific procedure.
Yes, and that is its big difference: each level is its own exam, so you sit the rung that matches your real level instead of a generic test. We help you place it before you book.

Yes, a suite of professional English levels, and also the CITE for English teachers. At ULIC we prepare them One to One; ask us about dates.
Mastery gives UCAS points for the UK, but for international admissions and visas the standards are IELTS and TOEFL. Anglia is accreditation for the Spanish system and documented progress.
Yes, and it is the natural route: we are an official exam centre for Anglia Examinations England (ES-B180538). You book and pay with us, prepare with us if you like, and sit with us, at a centre or from home depending on the format.
§ 11 · Prep at ULIC

A single format to prepare Anglia: at your rung.

Anglia rewards two things: sitting the exact rung and mastering the task format of that rung. Both are solved the same way: diagnostic first, tailored training after. That is why for Anglia we offer a single preparation format, the one that adapts to each rung and each age.

Your next rung has a date every month of the year.

Measure your level, choose your rung and book your sitting. At ULIC you do it all in one place: we are an official exam centre for Anglia Examinations England, ES-B180538, and we have been preparing candidates of all ages since 2010.
